A huge thank you for the generous book donation to the Beacon Unit
We are incredibly grateful for the generous donation of books and comics to the Beacon Unit, our children and adolescent mental health facility in Glenfield.
The donation, which includes Nina Peanut by Sara Bowie, Check Mates by Stuart Foster, and Genius Ideas by Tom Gates, has brought so much excitement already to the young people in our care.
Inspired by their new reading material, the patients have even created a special "book nook" on the ward – a cozy little space designed for reading, relaxing, and calming down. They spent the entire day crafting and making a sign for their nook, showing just how much they appreciated the opportunity to have a peaceful spot to escape into their new stories.
Sophie Lem, Ward Sister, shared her thoughts on the donation, saying, "We would like to thank you for the incredibly kind donation of books and comics for our young people. Being in hospital can be really difficult, and sometimes they need a low-stimulus area off the ward to spend some time distracted and engaged in other activities. Our new reading corner will be really helpful for our young people wanting to distract their minds."
This thoughtful donation has made a meaningful impact, providing the children with not only a chance to engage in enriching activities but also a calm space to unwind. It’s heart-warming to see how much the children have embraced this new resource, and we know it will continue to bring comfort and joy to them during their time at the Beacon Unit.
On behalf of the entire Beacon Unit team and Raising Health, thank you Read For Good!
