Wearing LGBTQ+ Lanyards with pride

30 Aug 2024

We are delighted to announce in the lead up to the Leicester Pride celebrations, that we have secured the funding to purchase over 500 LGBTQ+ progress lanyards.

By providing staff with these lanyards, we are able to help our patients identify staff they can speak to about issues they may have, signpost patients to resources and fundamentally, break down barriers LGBTQ+ people face when accessing healthcare.

These lanyards include the Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT) logo and are all inclusive, with stripes of those from the trans and intersex communities. They also have a three-point break to be worn in secure settings, ensuring that inclusivity can be supported in all our mental health settings.

Apexa Patel, Engagement & Wellbeing Manager said: “These lanyards are a fantastic addition to our sites across LPT that will allow myself and colleagues to support patients, carers and staff in recognising a safe space.'

We would like to take the opportunity to thank the two amazing funders that made this possible; The Attitude Foundation and the Paul Cottingham Trust- Your donations will help us demonstrate our support and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community.

“One of the patients I care for is transgender and has commented positively on my LGBTQ+ lanyard. They said it is really nice to see visual support and acceptance from staff.”

- Josh Proctor, Mental Health Nurse at the Bradgate Unit

We are so excited that our staff and volunteers who will be celebrating Leicester Pride will be able to wear these lanyards to demonstrate that LPT champions, supports and stands with all members of the LGBTQ+ community.
