Bosom Babies receives grant from Blaby District Council

1 Apr 2019

LPTs Breastfeeding Peer Supporter group, Bosom Babies, were selected to receive a £500 grant towards to costs associated with running and promoting the group, which provides support for breastfeeding mothers and their partners in Blaby, Oadby and Wigston.

Janine Hartley, Claire Sceeny, Abi Jennings - volunteer peer supporters - are pictured here receiving the 'big cheque' at the presentation evening on 20 March.

Janine explained more about the volunteer-led support offered by Bosom Babies:

"We see upwards of 20 women and babies a week in our groups supporting their choice to breastfeed and bolstering the professional support from midwives and health visitors. We do this through our four weekly drop in groups, a variety of workshops, an email service, a manned telephone service and via Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

We operate out of the surestart centres, however, we are losing some of our venues as the centres are either closing or changing use.  As we are run by volunteers and do not charge for any of our services the grant quite literally means our groups in Blaby district can securely continue. We are very grateful to Blaby District council for their support."
