Sport England grant transforms patient care and wellbeing

21 Nov 2025

Thanks to a generous £11,000 grant from Sport England, patients across our 19 mental health inpatient wards, now have access to an incredible range of sports and activities, from table tennis and archery to cricket sets, football, bowls, swingball, and more.

These resources are already making a huge difference, creating opportunities for patients to stay active, connect with others, and boost their wellbeing. Staff are also joining in, making these sessions a shared experience that lifts everyone’s spirits.

Here’s what some of our patients have said:

“Playing cricket on the ward has been brilliant, it gives us something fun to do together and lifts everyone’s spirits!”

“I love swingball! It’s simple but gets me outside and laughing again!”

“The table tennis on the wards has made such a difference. It helps me focus, gets me moving, and it’s great for socialising too!”

“The new equipment gives us a reason to be active and really helps my mental health.”

The equipment has also enabled our Meaningful Activities Coordinators to introduce sports sessions into ward timetables, offering something new and exciting for patients. These sessions encourage movement and social interaction, which we know have a huge impact on both physical and mental health.

A heartfelt thank you to Sport England for this incredible donation - you’ve made a real difference to our patients’ lives!
