You might remember that a few months ago, the Raising Health team reached the fundraising target for the Bring Light to the Beacon Appeal and we’re thrilled to share that the brand-new sensory room at the Beacon Unit has now been fully installed and is already being enjoyed by patients!
The room is now equipped with a range of calming and interactive features, including an infinity tunnel, hurricane wall, soft safety padding, bean bags for comfortable seating, an interactive wall and floor projector, and even a portable sensory trolley that can be taken to patients’ bedrooms.
This wonderful new space has been made possible thanks to the incredible generosity of the Bring Light to the Beacon Appeal’s funders, including members of the public, charitable trusts and foundations, local businesses, and community groups. A special thanks to:
· Amazon
· Anand and Sethi Trust
· Bradgate Rotary Club
· Fleckney Parish Council
· Florence Turner Trust
· Maud Elkington Trust
· Pukka
The sensory room is helping our staff provide a safe and soothing environment and supporting patients in moments of distress, offering a space for calm, comfort, and de-escalation while they receive care and treatment for severe mental health difficulties.
“The room is beautiful, it’s already making such a difference for our patients. It gives them a peaceful space to relax and feel safe. They particularly love the hurricane wall, watching the snow effect, it’s so relaxing.”
We’ll also be gathering feedback from the children using the room and may add some extra equipment based on what they feel would help them most during their stay on the ward.
Thank you so much to everyone who donated and helped make this possible. Your kindness continues to bring hope and healing to those who need it most.
