The Adult Mental Health Inpatient Occupational Therapy Service covers a multitude of wards (Acute, Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit, Forensic & Rehabilitation) at sites across Leicester & Leicestershire. We believe that regardless of where a patient is on the journey of their health recovery, they receive the same excellent level of care  that is individual and tailored to their needs.

Sensory preferences help recovery

Helping patients to identify their sensory ladder and preferences can help them self regulate and reduce challenging behaviours as well as support them to be alert enough to engage in everyday occupations.

Whilst our dream goal would be to provide every ward environment with a multifunctional sensory room, this would require a significant financial investment. Instead we aim to start small and build up our resources to enable us to have a selection of portable, multi sensory items that OT staff can book out and utilise on the wards to create ‘pop up’ sensory sessions for patients whether that be a group based session or on a 1:1 session.

Our wishlist

We are based over three sites so we need three of each item on our wishlist as a minimum to reduce our staff time travelling to transfer items across sites, which would take away from patient care.

Key things on our wish list are:

Sensory Voyager Trolley £2,200
Weighted blanket £150
Multitude of sensory items to cover all sensory modalities £500
SenSit Chair and footstool £2,000
Miscellaneous (e.g. storage/ cleaning etc) £150
Total £5,000 per site / £15,000 for three sites

Fundraising

We aim to fundraise through a variety of sessions, we’re starting the process off on Saturday 2nd November 2019 just prior to the start of #OTWeek2019.

During the week of the 4th -8th November 2019 we will be holding a cake sale, a stall to promote the profession and work we do. We will continue to complete mini fundraising tasks each month to raise the vital funds to enable us to enhance our services. You can follow our progress through our social media accounts.

Could you help us reach our target?

Whether you are able to donate today or to take part in a fundraising challenge or bake sale to support our appeal we would love to hear from you. You can get in touch here or donate here.
