At Westcotes House in Leicester, we support children and young people experiencing anxiety, trauma, neurodiversity, and complex emotional needs. Many of our patients find entering the clinic overwhelming , bright lights, noise, and crowded spaces can trigger distress before appointments even begin.
Just outside our building lies an underused 1,200m² green space. With your support, we want to transform it into the Bee and Breathe Waiting Garden, a therapeutic outdoor sanctuary where children and families can feel calm, safe, and welcome.
What your may help us to create:
- A sensory path with bark, stones, and logs to support movement and mindfulness
- Natural seating for reflection, connection, or quiet moments before and after appointments
- Fragrant planting (lavender, rosemary, thyme) to aid emotional regulation
- Shaded spaces and grassy mounds for comfort, play, and grounding
- Accessible signage and crossings for inclusivity and safety
Referrals to Referrals to our Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) have surged by over 50% since the pandemic. Many of the children we see come from areas with little or no access to safe outdoor spaces. They deserve care that begins the moment they arrive — not just in therapy, but in how they are welcomed.
This space will support not just children, but also parents, carers, and staff, offering peace, dignity, and a better start to every visit.
